On December 10, 2020, World Human Rights Day, a Chinese grassroots police officer was listed on the list of sanctions imposed by the US government, arousing the curiosity and attention of public opinion.
On World Human Rights Day, the U.S. State Department announced sanctions against 17 foreign officials and immediate family members for serious human rights violations or corruption, banning them from entering the United States. One of them is a police officer from the Wu Village Police Station of the Siming Branch of the Public Security Bureau in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China. Huang Yuanxiong, the news continues to arouse public repercussions.
According to Chinese media, Huang Yuanxiong, born in July 1975, Han nationality, Bachelor of Laws from Xiamen University, Instructor of the Second Police Team of Wu Village Police Station, Siming Branch of Xiamen Public Security Bureau.
The U.S. State Department issued a statement saying that Huang Yuanxiong’s participation in the detention and interrogation of Falun Gong practitioners exercising their right to freedom of belief in Xiamen has seriously violated human rights, especially their religious freedom. This sanction applies to Huang Yuanxiong’s spouse. According to relevant US regulations, they will not be allowed to enter the United States. The statement also said the world would not stand idly by the Chinese government’s systematic human rights abuses.
In 2017, the U.S. government sanctioned Gao Yan, director of the Chaoyang Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau, under the Global Magnitsky Act, who is believed to be involved in the death of Chinese rights activist Cao Shunli.
Sina.com reported with the title “An ordinary community policeman is also on the US sanctions list, Chinese netizens: learn from him”, saying that the US sanctions on a policeman in Xiamen has become a hot search term.
The vice-chairman of the National People’s Congress sanctioned by the United States is a deputy state-level official, while Gao Yan is a bureau-level official.
If sanctions are to be imposed, at least the director of the Xiamen Public Security Bureau, or the director of the Fujian Public Security Bureau, or Chen Siyuan, the deputy minister in charge of political security at the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, must also be sanctioned. This clumsy performance of Falun Gong is completely a waste of the precious administrative resources of the United States by collecting black money from the CCP.
